moving on up
After weeks of insanity and an entire day of apartment-viewing, negotiating and lease signing... we finally found an apartment for September. Paying a lot more than we're paying now (!) though heat is included, plus having to pay extra for off-street parking (the very idea!!), but it's a very nice place. Huge- 2 ½ bedrooms, with numerous closets, a dining room, and a pantry. Practically Malfoy Manor in an apartment. It's located in a lovely historic building, built in 1898, in the American Collegiate Gothic style. And it will be a fantastic place to write the_lgc. In fact, I can even connect our new home to the LGC in less than six degrees of separation:
Pretty cool, huh? And I finally saw OOtP.. though I'm sure everyone must be tired of talking about it by now, but I can't resist putting in my two cents here :
Yay!
"Just because you've learned how to use magic doesn't mean you have to keep whipping out your wands!" Molly Weasley to Fred and George. Indeed!
Snape saying "Penetrate" and "Prepare yourself" to Harry during the Occlumency scene. I don't ship Snarry, but OMG!
Bellatrix LeStrange and Tonks- just how I pictured them.
Grimmauld Place interior- dark, dusty, morose, perfect. I almost expected to see the flower-sprigged sheets from Pushdragon's Nocturne for Quill and Ink.
Voldemort in a black suit, black shirt, and black tie.. Not canon, but awesome nevertheless. Got to love that Tom Riddle.
Lucius Malfoy- utterly magnificent. Shiv, you'll love him in this!
Dudley Dursley's new thug look with his gold chain.
Petunia's mini-dress/romper- I don't know why the director made her wear this, but the actress looks surprisingly good in it.
Harry face to face with a threstral- Equus flashback! I almost thought he was about to go into the bit about the chinkle-chankle or hop on for a naked ride. Pity.
Luna Lovegood- Like every other review I've read, wide-eyed Evanna Lynch is just perfect in this role.
The scene where Hermione says to Harry "At least you got to spend some time with Cho" and the camera flashes to Ginny's disgruntled face. It was subtle and not overdone.
Speaking of Ginny- I like Bonnie Wright here. Not obnoxious.
Many scenes with Harry panting in bed. Could those dreams all be nightmares?
Harry and Remus in the Department of Mysteries: As gunderpants has pointed out, when Remus is restraining Harry and Harry is crying and twisting in his arms, it really does look like he's giving it to Harry from behind. Sorry Dan, but you made it look believable.
Nay!
Harry's short hair! But we already knew that.
Like most of the HP movies, it was paced so fast that there's no way anyone who hadn't read the book could possibly follow what's going on.
Grawp- bad CG. His size seems to keep shifting.
When they're out of their robes, Harry's friends wear only horizontal striped shirts and sweaters (jumpers). Why?
Almost no Draco- a very short confrontation at the beginning of the film, then all he does is basically glare at Harry in the background
Not nearly enough Bellatrix and Tonks.
No Walburga Black! I missed her foul-mouthed ranting.
Umbridge titters instead of saying "Hem, hem" Not as malevolent, to my mind.
"Nigel" - or Sir Not Appearing In These Books, to take a leaf from Monty Python. There's no purpose for this non-canon character in the movie whatsoever. If the director wanted to add something, the movie would have been much better served by a scene in which Harry and Draco make out. Oh well, they can always fix that in the next two movies...
Speaking of snogging, the Harry/Cho kiss. The movie didn't do a good job in establishing Harry's attraction to Cho, and I couldn't see Cho crying during the kiss. Did I miss something?
The movie implies that Cho betrayed Dumbledore's Army, but doesn't give her a motivation. Not only is this scene not canon, but it annoyed me for its pointlessness. Ah, but it does, and thanks ciel_vert and melusinahp for the clarification. I still don't think there was a pressing need to change the plot in this way.
